mean-robotWe live in a world where most things are being powered by robots, it seems surreal but when you realise just how many things humans no longer have control over it makes you think more about the movie Terminator and how close reality actually is. Most things that were once made by people have now been outsourced to robots instead; one of the reasons for this is that robots can be programmed to do exactly what you say. So if you want to have something delicate made that has no room for error, then a robot may be the solution you need.

Factories are just one of the places where robots have taken over. Before there were many things that were made by people such as embroidery, sewing, knitting and even rug making. More delicate items such as pottery engraving and furniture are now also made by robots. The manufacturing industry is a multi million pound business and with many entrepreneurs having everything powered by robots, the annual turnover is even better. People are now being made redundant following the use of robots for nearly everything.

Supermarkets have also followed this cost cutting way by installing self service counters in their shops. Now customers scan their items and pay for them instead of having a person do all the work, that is, a computer powered by a robot does the work of a human. Many firms in the UK have followed suit such as Morrison’s, Tesco, B&Q and Boots. This of course has caused outrage by many unions as in future humans will no longer be sought after to carry out basic tasks as this is being outsourced to robots.

The internet is another example, as websites are regularly being updated, a robot is created to scour the internet and make these new web pages available to view from search engines. So next time you have to use a search engine to find out something, spare a thought on how it got there in the first place. Robots are used for all sorts of things when it comes to the internet as your internet connection itself needs to come from somewhere and is most probably powered by a robot. You can also get Questions/Answers style sites, eg fancyAcar learner drivers Q&A, where your questions are answered from either a knowledge base or from community members who happen to know the answer or have the experience to guide you.

People who lose limbs are now also offered a robotic one instead, there have been many people who have had an artificial arm or leg that is of robotic nature but controlled by the brain. This is just the first step; soon they will have a mind of their own. In Japan they have created the world’s only successfully functioning robot that can do house chores such as washing up, cleaning and preparing basic meals.

The world as you know it will soon be powered by robots and with all the technology advances we have it’s not hard to see why.
